Ah, Kevin Smith. I love his movies mostly because of the intensely satisfying dialogue. Sure, in real life, people don't speak in bursts of rhythm carefully calculated to maximize effect and minimize extraneous words, but I can't get enough of it in any of Smith's movies. So, last night, over my slice of zucchini and mini orange and red tomatoes, I couldn't wait to see his latest film, Clerks 2. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical how good a sequel could be. To my delight, the movie did not disappoint. The premise of the movie is to see where Dante and Randal have ended up 10 years after their adventures in Clerks (and we quickly find out that they haven't really changed). At first, I had to get used to the aged versions of Dante and Randal, but soon, they had me laughing. In true Kevin Smith style, I alternately laughed and stared at the screen going "what the hell" during bizarre moments. Granted, if you've never seen the original Clerks, the sequel would lose much of its humor. So, my advice? Watch the original and then watch the sequel. It's time well-spent.
Tune in next week for All about My Mother.
